Foundation genesis - Fall/Winter 2002
David Blackwell, Campus Minister, in concert with several interested parties
developed a plan to establish a foundation to help raise funds for the ministry
with a primary goal to provide a Student Center.
The Newark church had responsibility for David's salary and a small ministry
budget.
It was believed highly desirable and important to the success of advancing the
campus ministry that a house on or near campus be purchased. The Newark church
was not in a position to provide such a facility. Another approach for funding
had to be developed..
The Foundation, modeled after a similar program at Auburn University, Auburn, AL
was officially incorporated as a Delaware non-profit corporation on 27 November
2002. Bylaws were established in March 2003, appropriate to the corporation and
recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization 28 July 2003. We
file an annual form 990 with the IRS.
A charter member board consisted of David Blackwell, David Shepherd, Robert
Carroll, Benny Blackwell, William Betit, Richard Duzan, Katherine Colyer,
Darrell Swanson, and Eva Rose. The officers elected were President - Darrell
Swanson; Vice President - Eva Rose; Secretary - Robert Carroll and Treasurer -
David Shepherd; Campus Director - David Blackwell.
We launched the Foundation with an introduction and fund raising gathering on
May 9, 2003.
We have since developed an operational structure consisting of several
committees. We have increased the number of Board directors from 11 to 13 to
support the work required for the Foundation.
The board's regularly scheduled meetings are held the fourth Thursday of the
month. Additional meetings are held as required.
