Young Adult Facts
In a revealing article written by Cathy Lyn Crossman, USA Today, August 7,
2007, "young adults aren’t sticking with church. 70% of surveyed Protestants
stopped attending by age 23. 7 in 10 Protestants ages 18 to 30 – both
evangelical and mainline – who went to church regularly in high school said they
quit attending by age 23, according to the survey by LifeWay Research. And 34%
said they had not returned, even sporadically, by age 30. That means that one in
four Protestants have left the church."
"In the United States, about 45 percent of high school seniors leave Churches of
Christ after they leave home," according to research by Flavil Yeakley, director
of the Harding Center for Church Growth in Searcy AK. Outside the Bible belt,
ministers believe the number is closer to 80 percent.
These are very alarming statistics and should be a matter of concern to all
Christians!
